9 Pillars of Transformational Leadership

9 Pillars of Transformational Leadership

“Leadership is the capacity and will to rally men and women to a common purpose and the character which inspires confidence.”- Bernard Montgomery, British Field Marshal

Here are 9 pillars that catapult passionate leaders from their limitations to their latitude.

1. Passion.

“Leadership is no longer about position – but passion. It’s no longer about image but impact. This is Leadership 2.0”- Robin Sharma

This is the ability of the leader to convey passion and intent in thinking, giving, responsibility, creativity, initiative, generosity, talent and communication.

2. Intuition.

As observed by Bonnie Marcus in Forbes/ Leadership article on September 1, 2015: “the greatest challenges facing leaders in business today is decision-making” Leaders are expected to make decisions fast and strategically.

Well, passionate leaders understand that their greatest resource in sound decision-making is intuition and it lies within us.
Intuition is the ability of the leader to sense what others fail to sense, build credibility and trust with the sense and most importantly pursue the sense.

3. Responsibility.

Are you really a leader?

If the answer to the above question is yes! Then have it in your head and heart that leadership is RESPONSIBILITY and not power.

Responsibility is the ability of a passionate leader to do what others fail to do.

4. Creativity.

As a leader do you take time to troubleshoot?

In his book, Time Valuation page 14, Joseph Obwanda notes; ‘take time to think; it is the source of power’

In leadership, power doesn’t come in titles but in the ability of the leader to think issues, think solutions, think progress.
Passionate leaders take time to troubleshoot challenges and come up with tangible solutions about the challenges. Take time to think

5. Skills and Potential

“Leadership is unlocking people’s potential to become better.”- Bill Bradley

Passionate leaders bring on-board teachable, knowledgeable, skilled and talented individuals whom they passionately build and nurture them to their best.

6. Initiative.

“Without initiative, leaders are simply workers in a leadership position.”- Bo Bonnet

Passionate leaders do more than just giving instructions, speeches, sitting and wait for results.
Passionate leaders use imagination and common sense in guiding, directing, controlling and in collaborating.
They lead by example in action

7. Communication.

“The art of communication is the language of leadership.” James Humes.

Passionate leaders take time to say what others fear and fail to say:

  • They communicate vision.
  • They elucidate the mission.
  • They communicate value.
  • They connect with humanity.
  • They motivate and inspire.
  •  They transform their teams.

8. Generosity.

“Every great leader has a generosity gene.”- Jack Welch

Generous leaders believe and live in Mother Theresa’s spirit, they do not do things for people because of who they are or what they do in return, but because of who they are-Generous.

Passionate leaders not only ensure that their teams are paid in time, they go their way to give what others do not give:
They listen-hearing is to perceive sound, listening is to pay attention to the sound perceived.
They invest their time in growing leaders for leadership is what happens in their absence.

“Giving material goods is one form of generosity, but one can extend an attitude of generosity into all one’s behavior. Being kind, attentive, and honest in dealing with others, offering praise where it is due, giving comfort and advice where they are needed, and simply sharing one’s time with someone – all these are forms of generosity, and they do not require any particular level of material wealth.”- Dalai Lama

We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.”-Winston Churchill

9. Influence.

Leaders with influence; give when they don’t have to. Care for others. Grow continuously. Live authentically. Empower others. Manage hardship. Serve with humility.”- 1991-12014 Lolly Daskal www.lollydaskal.com Lead from Within

Influence is the capacity of a leader to have an inspirational and transformational impact on his or her team through character, behavior, relationships, speech and ultimately decision making.
